We saw that even though Nagato's Paths were killed he could still control that think where it stored all the souls. Maybe in a similar manner Madara can use it to bring himself back to life. But he does have Izanagi which would make this improbable.

Well Nagato made a choice to let go of the future to Naruto. He could have very well not revived anyone back in Konoha. Since he did I guess he kind of sacrificed himself.

Madara doesn't say anything about whether the sage had the rinnegan prior to becoming the Juubi jinchuriki. He just explains that the reason the sage was revered so much is because he saved the world from it.
I still think the rinnegan resulted from the sage sealing the juubi. This caused him to change at the cellular level, hence his sons having parts of his power.
And the Juubi's eye looks like what would come about if the Sharingan and the rinnegan were to merge.

The pictures speak louder than words bro. And we have already been told that Rikudo was born with the Rinnegan from Jiraya.
In the pictures you see the Rikudo facing the Jyuubi with the Rinnegan.

Jiraiya only new legends/rumours of the sage, he thought it was just that until he saw Negato's eyes activate.

| Well I guess Jiraya's references and of course Madara's references might not be enough but for me they are. It would make also sense since we already know that the Rinnegan was a gift from Gods to bring peace to the world.
I don't think that the Jyuubi had anything to do with peace.

| The juubi appeared and whilst everyone else just hightailed it the hell out of there one of them didn't.
A man stepped forward and somehow managed to contain the demon. He turned this mass of hate into a tool to bring peace to the world.
It's just energy bro directed one way it can destroy another way it can be the source of creation.

| And in order to do that he used the tool given to him by God aka the Rinnegan. The Jyuubi came later on as a source to fuel the Rinnegan skills.

I'm gonna say the sage wasn't always known as the sage, he rose to fame after the Juubi incident.
In other words the sage was born after he sealed the Juubi. If he obtained the rinnegan as a by product of sealing the Juubi then the sage would have been "born" with the rinnegan.
You follow my drift?
