Target = see and then they're gone.

That's how he dealt with Susanoo's uber fast arrows so i don't see how dust release would be any different

There is a time delay between Oonoki creating the cube and it expanding to contain you.

I'd say that dust release is not as fast as amaterasu once activated anything the user looks is covered in inextinguishable black flames.

The delay is indeed something that slows down the reaction time but once it expands its game over. Dust release has one of the fastest reaction rates.

And the fact that it doesn't require so much as aiming because of its vast range it does have an edge over other jutsus.

Because of it's destructive force you'd have to be exceptionally careful with it.

It's not like shooting your buddy in foot, there's no way back 8-S

Actually the fact that it has such a high radius making the whole need to point to the target kind of useless. The other jutsus do require to aim to the target.

I agree with that part. But if there's are allies fighting around you then you've got to have control.

In a one on one yep let it off the chain. But if you got buddies around you in the fight and you fire off a really massive, fast expanding cube of disintegration then you run the risk of wiping out your allies along with the enemy.

Well Gaara is there and that didn't seem to affect him so I guess it all depends on how well you can use a jutsu.

Gaara wasn't in the mix so much. He's a long range fighter so no problem there as he is far away from who you are aiming at.

He was right there and the same was for the other Kages and they weren't affected.

Yes Gaara was right there but he wasn't in the line of fire.

As for the smaller scale attack Onoki used against Sasuke this indicates a high level of control. If the attack has one size then the scale of destruction we saw when he used it against Mu would have wiped out everyone at the summit.

It depends on where Oonki is and what he wants to target. And also how serious he takes his opponents.

Yes what and who he's aiming at has to be taken into consideration. So surely this means that the jutsu has to be aimed when used in close quarters combat.

On a big open battle field where the two opposing sides have considerable distance between them you don't have to aim as much.

Which would make Oonoki a war changer factor. Him and the Jinchuurikis most likely have the most destructive jutsus.

I think the effectiveness of dust release depends on the battle. If its long distance then it's a game changer.

However if it's close quarters hand to hand stuff then dust release is probably not the best choice.
