| I've seen two different translations.
One saying "you are the third of the six paths" and the other saying "you were the third sage of the six paths."
The first implies that Madara has been harvesting from eyes from the other paths. The second indicates that there have been 2 rinnegan users before Negato.
I think the first is more likely as anyone with the rinnegan would be ridiculously famous so I doubt there was a mystery rinnegan user.

| I have also read the translation of frankyhouse which uses the translation from the american shonen and it says that "you were the third candidate to become the Rikudo" Its complicated with the different translation so we might have to wait to see it in the anime but whichever one it indicates that the Rinnegan is only suitable for certain people.

I'm thinking because the Rikodou saw that the power of the Juubi was too great he would have also seen that the power of the Rinnegan is too great. It would have been prudent of him to split up the power, perhaps into seven parts and scatter them.
And then maybe many years later Madara came along and found them all!
All the abilities seen in the "paths" originate from Nagato, all of them, with the exception of the puppet Path. (nagato cant fire rockets :p)
The fact that all of them have the Rinnegan comes from his rods, i think the fact that he changed one of the paths with a different corpse proves that.

Possibly but we don't know what was done to create the second animal path. Well obviously chakra rods were inserted into the corpse but he may have also transplanted the eyes.

But Nagato does have the eyes, the most likely scenario (imo) is that since Nagato feeds the corpses with his chakra, the corpses' chakra circulation system "mimics" Nagato's and since Nagato's abilities come through his chakra...
I think it works like blood and HIV (when u get the disease after u get injected with the affected blood)

| Chakra is just energy depending on how it's utilised it can do pretty much anything. However somethings seem to be genetically limited. Say you want to use Amaterasu then you need the mangekyo sharingan.
Similarly with the rinnegan, imo, I don't think the techniques can be simply transmitted.
Say you know how to play the piano and you take control of someone else's body. How you ask....... by cramming it full of chakra rods of course!
In theory you should be able to make that body play the piano as well as you can. Assuming your level of control is good enough etc. But if the body you have taken control of is missing both hands then it's impossible to bang out the showtunes that you can play so well.
Secondly: Naraka, preta, human and asura were all destroyed by Naruto.
This leave outer, animal, deva and Negato, thats 4 pairs of eyes in total.
In order to give the new 6 paths a rinnegan Madara needed 7 eyes in total, so he now has one laying around.

| Re-reading my previous post i just realized i failed to state what my point was.
Nagato's chakra running through any corpse, will allow it to grow the Rinnegan and use all of Nagato's techs as if it's Nagato himself on the field.
That's the main advantage of the paths, it's like you're fighting 6 Nagato's at once.

You statement is clear bro and I agree with it. The Rinnegan works in the distribution of ones vision via the linking of a corpse. Perhaps it can be done with a live subject of not but I do believe that once the original person becomes the first path the one that controls life and death then the vision is shared with the corpses that have been linked to it.

Well it would be the real deal as long as it would stay connected to the original creating path. Otherwise it would most likely be useless.

| Well not so much bro. He implants himself with the Rinnegan and then links himself with the Edo's. Once he does that the Edos become his paths growing the Rinnegan in their eye sockets.
