| I'm not sold on the Rinnegan being able to copy tech's.
I'll accept there's a link between the two as it is said the Uchiha ancestor got the sage's eyes.
As for the ability to use Izanagi it's the combo of Senju and Uchiha that allowed Madara and Danzou to use it, right?

| The Rinnegan doesnt let anyone copy techs, it allows them to master them after witnessing them. That makes the Rinnegan superior to the Sharingan.
The Sharingan originates from the Rinnegan.
And the Rikudou Sennin could use Izanagi without any penalties, and to much greater effect that what we've seen so far.
The man gave life to things with Izanagi

This is the answer. Although Uchihas need Senju cells to use the Izanagi it is a jutsu in their Sharingan which relates it directly to the Rinnegan.

The Sharingan and Rinnegan originate from the Juubi. Just look at it's eye, tomoe and concentric circles.
They are branches of the same tree. It would appear that the sage passed on a limited amount of his abilities to his son's.
The sharingan could have a retarded form of Izanagi accessible to it.

Chapter 425 page 9 Ibiki says he could use any technique.
