Well it really depends. In the Databooks they refer to the sealing of the Kyuubi as the separation from the body of his via the extraction of the Dark chakra. Which would mean that the Light chakra represents the Kyuubi's soul and the Dark his body.

Well he is missing his body but his power at the moment depends on the soul which he still has intact.

Well lets not forget that the Kyuubi also has Naruto. We know that Uzumaki's have immense chakra reserves so its possible that Naruto's chakra will act as the replacement.

Okay as we have seen the RM mode does change as time goes on. I will direct you all to read about the first manga chapters that Naruto activates it while fighting the Kyuubi. The tattoos are covering his upper body area. When he is trying to create the Bijuu bomb those tattoos move to the legs. It shows a progression of the Mode.
